Scalping exposes a futures prop firm's fine print faster than almost any other trading style. A firm may permit short-term trading while separately restricting very short holds, automated HFT, simulated-fill exploitation, news volatility, or payout eligibility.
We checked first-party rules on July 19, 2026 and ranked five firms for discretionary NQ and ES scalpers, micros traders, copier users, and semi-automated traders. Four additional firms appear as honorable mentions. The result is not a popularity list: it is a rule-specific comparison of execution tools, holding-time boundaries, drawdown, automation, platforms, and payout conditions.
The ranking at a glance
| Rank | Firm | Published scalping boundary | Best fit |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Topstep | No blanket minimum hold found; simulated-fill exploitation and abusive rapid-trading methods are prohibited | Integrated execution and risk controls |
| 2 | Apex Trader Funding | No numeric minimum hold found; HFT, automation, simulated-fill exploitation, and non-directional bracket gambling are prohibited | Disciplined manual, directional scalpers |
| 3 | Tradeify | More than 50% of trades and more than 50% of profit must come from holds longer than 10 seconds | Scalpers who can document a mostly over-10-second style |
| 4 | Lucid Trading | More than 50% of profit from trades held five seconds or less triggers a flag and manual review | Traders not dependent on sub-five-second profit |
| 5 | Bulenox | No numeric minimum hold is published on the Qualification Account rules page; all positions must be flat before 15:59 CT | Rithmic-based intraday scalpers choosing between trailing and EOD drawdown |
We weighted scalping and prohibited-strategy rules at 20%, drawdown and daily-loss structure at 20%, execution and platform support at 15%, contract costs at 10%, payouts at 15%, consistency and minimum days at 10%, and copier, automation, and news compatibility at 10%. A measurable boundary received more credit than a vague statement that “scalping is allowed.”
01. Topstep — best integrated execution and risk controls
Topstep leads because TopstepX puts execution, copying, analytics, and risk guardrails in one environment. The platform includes a depth-of-market ladder, hotkeys, OCO and bracket orders, a built-in trade copier, personal risk limits, trade limits, and lockout controls. Those tools help a fast discretionary trader control process risk before a loss reaches the account threshold.
Topstep's published prohibited-strategy language targets exploitation rather than ordinary short-duration trading. It prohibits algorithms intended to exploit simulated fills and patterns involving hundreds of rapid trades that attempt to take advantage of queue or fill behavior. Automation and copying are permitted under stated conditions, but a strategy should not depend on results that would be implausible in a live order book.
Best for: Scalpers who want a professional DOM, brackets, copying, performance analytics, and personal risk controls in one platform. Poor fit: Strategies that require a third-party execution platform or depend on high-volume simulated-fill behavior.
02. Apex Trader Funding — best for disciplined manual scalpers
Apex takes second place for manual, directional scalpers. The current prohibited-activities page we reviewed does not publish a simple minimum holding time. Instead, Apex requires trading to be manual, sustainably managed, directional, and realistic in a simulated environment.
Apex prohibits HFT, automation and algorithms, simulated-fill exploitation, non-directional brackets placed on both sides of the market, and risk structures that pursue a very small target while accepting a disproportionately large stop. It also requires every trade to have either a pending or mental stop and a defined risk-management process.
That can fit a discretionary scalper who uses genuine market direction, reasonable stops, and repeatable manual execution. It is not suitable for bot-dependent strategies, latency tactics, fill anomalies, or “lottery ticket” brackets. Apex's new-product lineup includes EOD and intraday drawdown choices and multiple platform options.
03. Tradeify — the over-10-second test
Tradeify publishes the clearest two-part duration test in this ranking. More than 50% of a trader's trades must last longer than 10 seconds, and more than 50% of total profit must come from trades lasting longer than 10 seconds. Failing either test can prevent evaluation activation or a payout request.
A trader whose normal hold is 20 seconds to several minutes may fit comfortably. A trader whose performance is dominated by five-second bursts does not. Tradeify allows trader-owned algorithms when they are exclusive to the trader and are not prohibited HFT. Platform access includes Tradovate and Rithmic options, with NinjaTrader and TradingView available through Tradovate.
Best for: Scalpers who can verify that both most trades and most profits remain on the over-10-second side of the rule. Poor fit: Strategies that regularly flatten inside 10 seconds.
04. Lucid Trading — watch the five-second profit rule
Lucid explicitly distinguishes genuine scalping from prohibited micro-scalping. Genuine scalping is permitted when it reflects realistic market activity and order execution. The critical boundary is profit-based: Lucid says an account will be flagged when more than 50% of its profits come from trades held for five seconds or less.
A flag starts a manual review rather than an automatic breach. If Lucid confirms bad-faith activity, the trader may receive a written warning. If the behavior continues after a warning, Lucid says the related profits may be forfeited and the trader may be permanently restricted. An appeal process is available.
This is not the same as counting trades. A small number of sub-five-second winners could cross the rule if they generate most of the account's profit. Lucid supports automation and trade copying subject to its rules and offers broad CQG and Rithmic platform access, but a prospective scalper should calculate profit contribution by duration bucket before buying.
05. Bulenox — best Rithmic-based flexible option
Bulenox takes the fifth ranked position. Its current Qualification Account rules do not publish a numeric minimum holding time. Traders can use standard and micro contracts in the same account, and the firm accommodates third-party API or composite-software connections—including copier, algorithm, strategy, and bot setups—subject to its stated monthly API fee.
The important constraint is session-based: every position must be closed before 15:59 CT. Scalpers must also choose the drawdown structure that fits their execution. The Trailing option moves with unrealized intraday profit and has no daily loss limit, while the EOD option updates at the close and adds a daily-loss guardrail and scaling structure. A fast strategy that frequently gives back open profit can experience those two products very differently.
Best for: disciplined intraday scalpers who want Rithmic access, micro contracts, and a choice between real-time trailing and end-of-day drawdown. Poor fit: traders who need native Tradovate or TradingView access, overnight holds, or a published numerical guarantee covering ultra-short trade duration.
06. Honorable mentions
Goat Funded Futures — Flex accounts only
Goat Funded Futures remains worth considering only for Flex Challenge and Flex Funded accounts. Profit generated from a trade closed within two minutes is deducted on EOD, Sprint, and Instant accounts. The trade is not necessarily a breach, but its profit does not count toward the balance or payout. Flex is exempt from that two-minute rule, although Goat's separate unrealistic tick-scalping policy still applies to every account type.
My Funded Futures — platform flexibility
My Funded Futures prohibits HFT and methods designed to exploit favorable simulated fills. Its fair-play policy does not publish the same numeric simulated-account holding-time test used by Tradeify or Lucid, so an ultra-short strategy deserves written clarification. The firm supports NinjaTrader, Tradovate, and TradingView, and its live-account FAQ permits micro-scalping while warning that live slippage and execution differ from simulation.
Funded Futures Network — flexible plan structure
Funded Futures Network can suit intraday traders comparing Standard MAX with STEADY. STEADY uses end-of-day trailing drawdown, has no daily loss limit, and removes the evaluation consistency rule from the funded phase. Automation and copying can be used within the firm's account rules. It remains an honorable mention because the public materials reviewed do not establish a sufficiently specific minimum-hold or ultra-short scalping boundary; confirm the exact strategy with support before purchase.
Take Profit Trader — manual scalpers comfortable with the buffer
Take Profit Trader can fit manual scalpers who understand the PRO account withdrawal buffer and the separate PRO+ live environment. Its universal policies prohibit bots and algorithms, require independent execution, and impose flat-position requirements around specified news and session boundaries. We did not find a precise public minimum-hold test in the reviewed policy, so it remains an honorable mention rather than a ranked pick.
07. What scalpers should check before buying
- Calculate median and average holding time.
- Measure the percentage of trades held five seconds or less and 10 seconds or less.
- Measure how much total profit comes from each duration bucket.
- Record maximum trades per session and typical bracket distance.
- Model commissions, exchange fees, platform costs, and realistic slippage.
- Compare drawdown, consistency, buffers, minimum days, and payout caps.
A 45-second average can hide a strategy that earns most of its money from a few sub-five-second trades. That distinction matters because Lucid tests profit contribution, while Tradeify tests both trade count and profit. Goat applies a plan-specific two-minute deduction outside Flex.
Drawdown also changes the practical risk. A scalper who gives back open profits can behave very differently under an intraday-trailing limit than under an end-of-day or static threshold. Read our prop-firm drawdown guide before comparing headline account sizes. NQ and MNQ traders can also use our Nasdaq futures plan comparison to translate each 50K drawdown into index points.
Likewise, a large profit split means little if the strategy repeatedly fails consistency or minimum-day requirements. Our prop-firm payout guide explains how to work backward from the amount you intend to withdraw.
If a public policy does not answer your use case, send support a precise description: average hold time, trades per day, typical target and stop, bracket distance, platform, copier, and automation. Save the written response and re-check the rules before each payout request.
08. Final verdict
Topstep is our best futures prop firm for scalpers in 2026. Apex Trader Funding ranks second for disciplined manual traders, Tradeify third for traders who can stay on the right side of its 10-second tests, Lucid Trading fourth, and Bulenox fifth. Goat Funded Futures, My Funded Futures, Funded Futures Network, and Take Profit Trader remain worthwhile honorable mentions with the plan and policy qualifications explained above.
