CME 100-Ounce Silver Is Now 24/7: Can Prop-Firm Traders Use It?

CME opened the SIC contract around the clock, but exact-symbol approval, platform support, and each firm's close rules still control access.

Short answer: not unless your prop firm explicitly enables it. CME's 100-Ounce Silver futures contract now trades on a 24/7 schedule under the symbol SIC, but an exchange opening a market does not add that instrument to a prop firm's approved list. It also does not cancel a firm's daily close, weekend flat, platform, or risk-reset rules.

At this review, the current permitted-instrument pages for Topstep, Tradeify, and My Funded Futures did not name SIC. Topstep listed the larger SI and micro SIL contracts; Tradeify listed SI and expressly excluded SIL; My Funded Futures listed both SI and SIL. None of those facts proves future support for SIC. Until the firm documents the symbol and session, treat it as unavailable.

What CME changed

CME Group expanded its financially settled 100-Ounce Silver futures contract to 24/7 trading effective September 11, 2026. The product is one-fifth the size of the standard 5,000-ounce silver contract and uses CME's published silver benchmark for settlement. Its CME Globex symbol is SIC.

The schedule is continuous in the exchange sense, not maintenance-free. CME's product FAQ lists a regular Saturday 2:00–4:00 AM Central Time maintenance window and a brief 4:00–4:02 PM CT weekday pause. CME's launch notice separately established the first Friday's longer 4:00–4:30 PM CT transition. Orders and trades from Friday through Sunday receive the following business day's trade date, with clearing, settlement, and regulatory reporting occurring on that next business day.

The important distinction is that CME controls the exchange contract and schedule. A prop firm controls which products its accounts may trade, when positions must be closed, what platform connection exposes, and how account-risk limits reset.

Current prop-firm support check

The safest test is exact-symbol support, not a generic claim that a firm “supports metals” or “supports CME.” Similar silver contracts have different multipliers, margin treatment, fees, liquidity, and risk.

Topstep

Topstep's current permitted-products page lists standard Silver (SI) and Micro Silver (SIL), but not SIC. It also requires all positions to be closed before 3:10 PM CT Monday through Friday and says Friday trading remains closed until Sunday at 5:00 PM CT. The current TopstepX fee page likewise prices SI and SIL without naming SIC.

That means CME's Friday-evening and Saturday SIC window does not create a Topstep trading window. Even if a platform later displays the contract, a trader should wait for Topstep to publish both product permission and applicable session handling.

Tradeify

Tradeify's supported-products page says only listed instruments are supported. It includes SI, explicitly labels SIL unsupported, and does not list SIC. Its permitted-times page requires positions to be closed by 4:45 PM ET and prohibits holding across the daily close or weekend for every account type, including Live accounts.

For Tradeify, “CME is open” and “the Tradeify account may trade” are plainly different tests. An unlisted symbol should not be used merely because it appears in connected software.

My Funded Futures

My Funded Futures' instrument table lists SI and SIL, along with their Sunday-through-Friday trading hours, but not SIC. The published hours for approved silver products do not silently extend to a different contract.

The firm would need to add or otherwise expressly authorize SIC before a trader should treat it as supported.

The five checks to run before trading SIC

  1. Find the exact symbol on the firm's official product list. “Silver,” “metals,” or “CME products” is too broad. Look for SIC and save the dated source.
  2. Confirm the account stage. Evaluation, simulated-funded, and live accounts can have different products, data feeds, or session permissions.
  3. Confirm the platform mapping. The platform must expose the CME contract through the firm's authorized connection. A searchable symbol is not, by itself, proof of firm permission.
  4. Map the firm's close and reset times. Weekend availability can collide with a required flat time, daily-loss reset, trailing-threshold snapshot, or maintenance window.
  5. Check costs and sizing before the first order. Verify commissions, exchange and data fees, tick value, maximum contracts, and whether a “micro” cap treats this smaller contract as a micro. Do not infer its classification from contract size.

If any answer is missing or contradictory, ask the firm's support team in writing and do not trade the contract until the response is explicit. Preserve the reply with the account's rules and purchase date.

Why weekend trading can change account risk

Longer hours do not necessarily create a better prop-firm setup. Weekend liquidity and spreads may differ from the core U.S. session. A firm's dashboard may calculate daily loss or trailing drawdown around a firm-specific timestamp, while CME assigns weekend activity to the following business day's trade date. Those clocks can affect whether profit, loss, a qualifying day, or a breach belongs to the period a trader expects.

The same issue applies to required flat periods. A position can be valid at the exchange and prohibited by the account agreement. If a prop firm later adopts SIC but preserves a Friday close rule, only the permitted portions of CME's 24/7 session will be usable.

The prop-firm trading-day guide explains how calendar dates, exchange sessions, and firm-defined days can diverge. Traders comparing silver costs should also review the TopstepX metals-fee update without transferring those SI or SIL fees to SIC.

Bottom line

CME has opened 100-Ounce Silver futures for 24/7 trading, subject to maintenance, and assigned the new product the symbol SIC. That is an exchange-level change—not blanket prop-firm authorization.

As of September 13, Topstep, Tradeify, and My Funded Futures did not list SIC on the reviewed official instrument pages. Their published session rules also remain in force. Prop-firm traders should therefore wait for an exact first-party listing, confirm the account stage and platform, and map the firm's close and risk-reset times before attempting to trade it.
