Labor Day on Monday, September 7, 2026 is a shortened futures session, and the safe operating rule is simple: be flat before your prop firm's own deadline, cancel every working order, and do not assume the exchange schedule or another firm's cutoff applies to your account.
Topstep requires positions closed by 11:45 AM Central Time. FTMO Futures says trading halts at 12:55 PM Eastern Time. Tradeify's standing rule for shortened holiday sessions requires positions closed by 12:59 PM Eastern Time, while directing traders to its official Discord for the actual holiday notice. These deadlines are only minutes apart after conversion, but a five- or ten-minute mistake can still trigger forced liquidation, slippage, or an account-rule problem.
Labor Day 2026 close-by times at a glance
| Firm | Published close-by time | Eastern | Central | Mountain | Pacific | Account scope and consequence |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Topstep | 11:45 AM CT | 12:45 PM | 11:45 AM | 10:45 AM | 9:45 AM | Trading Combine, Express Funded, and Live Funded accounts must be flat; remaining positions are auto-liquidated. |
| FTMO Futures | 12:55 PM ET | 12:55 PM | 11:55 AM | 10:55 AM | FTMO says trading halts and open positions will be automatically liquidated before the close. | |

All conversions above are for September 7, when Eastern, Central, Mountain, and Pacific locations are observing daylight time. Use the source timezone as the controlling time and check your platform clock before trading.
These are prop-firm account deadlines, not a universal exchange close for every contract. Your firm may require you to exit before the exchange stops trading. Contract hours can also differ, and a firm or exchange may revise a holiday schedule. Set a personal flat time at least 10 to 15 minutes before the applicable firm deadline rather than planning to exit on the final tick.
The safest plan for Monday
If you choose to trade the shortened session, use this order of operations:
- Confirm the holiday notice in your own dashboard, email, Help Center, or official firm channel before the Sunday evening open.
- Verify the exact futures contract's exchange hours; do not generalize from an equity-index contract to energy, metal, currency, agricultural, or crypto futures.
- Convert the firm's published time once, write it beside your platform clock, and set two alarms.
- Stop opening new positions well before the deadline. A market that is thinning into an early close may not give you the fill you expect.
- Exit all positions and cancel resting limit, stop, bracket, and strategy-generated orders at least 10 to 15 minutes early.
- Save a screenshot showing the account, flat position, empty working-order panel, platform time, and connection status.
- After the evening reopen, confirm whether the firm treats the session as the same blended trade date before resuming.
Skipping the session is a valid risk decision. A reduced session offers fewer hours to recover from a poor fill, while holiday liquidity can amplify slippage around a forced exit.
FTMO Futures: trading halts at 12:55 PM ET
FTMO's September 3 Futures Trading Update says that on Monday, September 7, trading will be halted at 12:55 PM Eastern Time. Open positions will be automatically liquidated before the market closes.
FTMO also warns that U.S. holidays commonly bring lower trading volume and liquidity, with potentially wider spreads and increased slippage. The practical consequence is that 12:55 PM ET should be treated as a hard outer boundary, not a target exit time. An automatic liquidation can arrive in a thin market and produce a worse fill than a controlled earlier exit.
For FTMO, a cautious personal deadline would be no later than 12:40–12:45 PM ET. Before that time, close positions, cancel linked orders, and verify the flat state across every account and platform connection. The detailed FTMO Futures Growth versus Pro guide explains the paths' broader drawdown and daily-loss differences; the holiday deadline applies to the operating session, not to a choice between those paths.
Topstep: close by 11:45 AM CT
Topstep's Holiday Trading Hours page requires all positions closed by 11:45 AM Central Time on September 7. The rule applies to Trading Combine, Express Funded Account, and Live Funded Account traders. Topstep says any position still open will be automatically liquidated.
Trading is scheduled to reopen at 5:00 PM CT the same day. That evening timestamp can be deceptive because futures sessions use blended trade dates. Topstep specifically warns that a Daily Loss Limit lock can remain in effect even after the calendar date or evening session appears to change. Its holiday guide says Live Funded Accounts follow the CME protocol, while Trading Combine and Express Funded Accounts do not use that protocol in the same way.
Topstep also says payouts are unavailable during holiday hours. If a payout request is part of your plan, do not assume Monday functions like a normal processing day. Check the dashboard after regular operations resume and avoid counting pending funds in a time-sensitive decision.
For Topstep, a cautious personal deadline would be 11:30–11:35 AM CT. The guide to what counts as a prop-firm trading day provides more context on evening opens, blended dates, and firm-specific day counting.
Tradeify: standing shortened-holiday cutoff is 12:59 PM ET
Tradeify's Permitted Times to Trade policy says all positions on shortened holiday sessions must be closed by 12:59 PM Eastern Time. It describes the rule as applying to all account types and stages, including Live accounts. Tradeify directs traders to its official Discord for the actual holiday-hours announcement, so verify the current date-specific notice before trading rather than relying on the standing cutoff alone.
Tradeify says its automatic close at the deadline does not itself fail the account, but it cautions that market movement can create slippage and unfavorable fills. That is still a meaningful account risk: a poor liquidation price can reduce the account balance or move it closer to a loss threshold.
Tradeify also treats holidays as independent trading days. For Rithmic accounts, however, profit from a holiday half-day may not be credited until the next full session closes, and a payout may therefore remain unavailable until that posting occurs. If a winning day or payout qualification depends on Monday's result, wait for the dashboard to post it rather than calculating eligibility yourself.
For Tradeify, a cautious personal deadline would be 12:44–12:49 PM ET, subject to any earlier date-specific notice. Review the Tradeify Select Daily versus Flex payout guide before connecting a holiday result to a withdrawal plan.
CME's no-settlement schedule does not mean no trading
CME Group's Labor Day settlement schedule says there will be no September 7 settlement prices for CME, CBOT, NYMEX, or COMEX products, apart from listed cryptocurrency fixing and marker prices used for expiring-option exercise and assignment. CME also says holiday schedules are subject to change.
“No settlement price” is not the same statement as “the market is closed all day.” Settlement, trading availability, and a prop firm's mandatory flat time are separate controls:
- The exchange schedule determines when a particular contract can trade and whether an official settlement is published.
- The prop-firm schedule determines when your account must be flat and when the firm may liquidate it.
- The platform or account ledger determines when profit, loss, a winning day, or payout eligibility appears.
Do not infer your account deadline from the settlement PDF alone. Start with the firm's notice, then confirm the exact contract schedule with the exchange.
Why holiday liquidity changes the risk calculation
The risk is not limited to missing a clock time. FTMO's official update calls out lower volume, lower liquidity, wider spreads, and increased slippage. Those conditions can affect any firm, even when another firm does not repeat the same warning.
Practical adjustments include trading smaller than normal, requiring cleaner setups, avoiding a new position as the cutoff approaches, and refusing to depend on a stop-market order for a precise final-minute exit. Automated strategies deserve special attention: disable any strategy that could reopen a position after you flatten, and check that a bracket order did not leave an orphaned stop or target.
If a disconnection or platform issue prevents a controlled exit, document the account, order state, time, and connection immediately and contact the firm through its official channel. The prop-firm platform outage documentation guide explains what evidence to preserve.
Labor Day checklist for futures prop traders
Before the Sunday evening open
- Open the firm's current holiday notice from a first-party source.
- Confirm whether your account is evaluation, simulated funded, or live.
- Verify the exact contract's exchange schedule and active month.
- Record the deadline in the firm's own timezone and your local timezone.
- Check whether payouts or support will be unavailable.
- Decide whether the expected opportunity justifies holiday liquidity risk.
Before placing Monday's first trade
- Confirm that the platform clock and local clock agree.
- Set alarms 30 minutes and 15 minutes before your personal flat time.
- Reduce size or skip the session if spreads, depth, or fills are abnormal.
- Know the current loss-limit and trailing-drawdown levels on the account.
At least 10–15 minutes before the firm cutoff
- Close every open position.
- Cancel all working, bracket, stop, target, and strategy-generated orders.
- Check every linked account separately; do not assume a copier flattened all accounts.
- Save a timestamped screenshot of the flat state.
- Stop the strategy or copier so it cannot re-enter.
After the close and evening reopen
- Confirm that profit and loss posted correctly.
- Check whether a Daily Loss Limit lock remains active.
- Verify that the evening session belongs to the expected trade date.
- Wait for the firm's dashboard to confirm a winning day or payout eligibility.
- Escalate a mismatch with screenshots and order identifiers; do not repair it by placing another trade.
If your firm is not listed here
Do not borrow one of these times. Find a current notice on the firm's website, Help Center, dashboard, email, or official announcement channel. Confirm the timezone, account-stage coverage, forced-liquidation policy, evening reopen, and any payout or trading-day effect. If the first-party sources conflict or do not name your account type, the safe choice is to remain flat and ask support for a written answer.
Bottom line
For Monday, September 7, Topstep's published deadline is 11:45 AM CT, FTMO Futures' halt is 12:55 PM ET, and Tradeify's standing shortened-holiday cutoff is 12:59 PM ET, subject to its current official notice. Flatten early, cancel every order, and verify the trade date and payout status after the shortened session. The final minutes before a holiday close are not the place to test how a prop firm's auto-liquidation behaves.
