The practical answer: use one legal identity, make every account field match the document you will submit, prepare a current physical ID and camera, turn off location-masking tools, and complete verification only through the firm's official secure flow. Save the non-sensitive status, date, and case number afterward. Do not email identity documents to an address you found in a forum, alter a document, or open a second profile to work around a rejection.
Identity checks do not happen at the same point at every firm. Topstep currently requires verification before a second purchase. Tradeify requires its own identity check at purchase for Instant Funding or after an evaluation pass before funded activation, then requires separate payout-provider onboarding. DayTraders ties the trading account to an individual legal identity even when a later payout profile is registered as a business. Purdia says identity, payment, ownership, or compliance documents may be requested as part of automated or manual review.
The seven-part preparation packet
Prepare these before the verification prompt appears:
- the exact legal name, birth date, and residential country used on the prop-firm profile;
- a valid, unexpired, original government-issued photo ID accepted by the firm;
- a camera-capable phone or computer with clear lighting and a clean lens;
- any separately requested proof of address, tax form, or business document;
- the account email, which should match any payout-provider profile when the firm requires it;
- the firm's current country-eligibility and account-ownership rules; and
- a private record of the submission time, displayed status, and support case number—without copying sensitive document images into an ordinary evidence folder.
The packet is preparation, not a promise of approval. Firms and their providers can request more information, re-run checks, or review geographic, payment, account-ownership, and compliance signals later.
Step 1: Match the profile before uploading anything
Compare the dashboard profile with the identity document character by character. Check full legal name, birth date, residential country, and address. Use the firm's correction channel before submission if a legitimate field is wrong; do not edit the image or invent a spelling that merely fits the account.
DayTraders says its accounts must be registered to an individual's legal first and last name. A company can be added later to the Plane payout profile, but the trading account and Pro Account agreement remain tied to the individual. Tradeify permits a company payout path through later business verification and says a trader should not create a second personal-versus-business account.
| Situation | Correct preparation | Avoid |
|---|---|---|
| Legal name differs from profile | Ask the firm's official support channel how to correct the profile | Editing the ID image or creating another account |
| Business wants the payout | Follow the firm's published KYB or business-payout flow | Registering the trading identity as an LLC when individual identity is required |
| Account and payout emails differ | Confirm whether the provider requires the same email before onboarding | Guessing that two profiles will merge automatically |
| Trader is traveling | Check residency and location policy before starting | Using a VPN or another person's address to manufacture eligibility |
Step 2: Use an accepted, current document
Topstep's current identity guide calls for a valid, unexpired, original physical passport, driver's license, or national ID card. It rejects photocopies, an image displayed on another screen, and covered documents. Tradeify's KYC guide likewise lists a government-issued passport, driver's license, or national ID and adds a liveness selfie.
The safe default is a clean, uncropped capture of the original document inside the authorized verification flow. Keep every edge visible, avoid glare, and do not cover fields with a hand or note. Submit only the document types the active screen names; a screenshot of a scan may fail even when the underlying ID is valid.
Step 3: Treat liveness as a separate checkpoint
A clear ID image does not complete a liveness check. Use a working camera, even lighting, and the person whose identity owns the account. Topstep asks for a selfie after the document images. Tradeify's Sumsub flow uses a liveness selfie and may screen identity information against sanctions, politically exposed person, and adverse-media databases.
Do not let another person complete the camera step. Tradeify's current compliance guidance says the account holder must personally own, control, verify, and operate the account. Its separate Know Your Trader process can later ask the trader to explain their own activity; that interview is distinct from KYC.
Step 4: Remove avoidable device and location conflicts
Use the official link on a normal device and connection. Topstep's troubleshooting guidance says a VPN or VPS, inaccurate device time zone, or location mismatch can cause verification problems. It recommends another browser or device, clearing browser data, and confirming camera permissions when the secure flow does not work.
Turning off a VPN does not cure a country-eligibility problem. Tradeify and DayTraders both publish restricted-country rules. A trader's document, residence, physical location, payment source, and provider availability can be separate questions. Check the current policy and ask support when travel or relocation makes the answer unclear.
Step 5: Separate firm KYC from payout onboarding
One green verification badge may cover only one system. Tradeify explicitly describes two checks: Tradeify identity verification for funded-account activation and separate Rise verification before the first payout. Its current guide says the payout-provider step can require ID, proof of address, and tax information; Plane may be used as an alternative where Rise is unavailable, subject to support confirmation.
DayTraders similarly tells traders to create a payout profile before requesting a withdrawal, with personal or business details handled through Plane. Topstep's payout policy requires tax forms and sends payouts only to a bank account in the trader's own name. Verify each checkpoint separately:
- prop-firm identity status;
- funded-account or agreement status;
- payout-provider invitation and profile;
- legal-name and email match;
- tax or address document status; and
- bank or payment account ownership.
Step 6: Save proof without duplicating sensitive data
Record the date and time, firm, account email, verification provider, displayed result, and any case number. A screenshot of a non-sensitive status page can help. Do not make unnecessary copies of an ID, selfie, Social Security number, passport number, bank record, or tax form for an ordinary support attachment.
If the secure provider requests a sensitive document, upload it only inside the named official flow. If support asks for a document by email or chat, verify the destination through the firm's published support channel and ask whether a secure upload link is available.
Step 7: Troubleshoot one failed checkpoint at a time
When verification fails, preserve the exact message and stop retrying blindly. Note whether the failure occurred at document capture, liveness, profile matching, residency, payment ownership, payout-provider onboarding, or later compliance review.
Then open one official support case with:
- account email and account identifier;
- verification provider and checkpoint;
- date, time, and time zone;
- exact error text;
- device and browser used;
- whether a VPN or VPS was active;
- the non-sensitive troubleshooting already attempted; and
- one question: correct a profile field, reopen the secure session, identify an accepted document, or explain the next review step.
Tradeify says common automated failures include blurry documents or mismatched information. Topstep says a fully locked verification banner should be taken to Trader Support. Neither instruction supports altering evidence, changing residency, borrowing an ID, or opening a duplicate profile.
A final check before submission
- The account uses the document holder's legal identity.
- Name, birth date, country, and address are accurate and consistent.
- The ID is original, current, unobstructed, and among the accepted types.
- The camera works and the account holder will complete liveness personally.
- VPN, VPS, and avoidable location conflicts are removed.
- Country eligibility and travel status are clear.
- Firm KYC and payout-provider onboarding are treated as separate checkpoints.
- Sensitive documents stay inside the official secure process.
- Only status, timestamps, error text, and case numbers go into the ordinary evidence log.
Bottom line
Identity verification is an account-control process, not a document-upload race. Make the profile truthful before the prompt, use the account holder's current original ID, complete liveness on a normal device and connection, and track the firm and payout-provider steps separately. If a check fails, preserve the exact non-sensitive error and use one official support case instead of changing facts or multiplying accounts.
For purchase-time records, use the prop-firm account purchase checklist. For payout-stage records, use the payout review checklist. If verification remains stuck, build one case with the support ticket escalation checklist.
